Baker Run is a tributary to the Susquehanna River, between Lock Haven and Renovo. The Sproul State Forest covers the hillsides, but it does not allow easy access to the river. When a property which has river frontage at the mouth of Baker Run was put up for sale it presented an opportunity to gain river access. DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry wanted to purchase a portion of the property to construct a parking lot for those wishing to fish or canoe on this section of the river. As is often the case, the seller wanted to dispose of the property more quickly than the Commonwealth could act to purchase.

NPC negotiated with the seller who wished to subdivide the property, separating out the area where a cabin is located, and having the sale of the remainder of the property completed with minimal delay.

The property will be transferred to DCNR, after which the Bureau of Forestry will begin the process of designing and constructing the access area. This access will become a feature of the water trail on the Susquehanna River’s West Branch.
