The Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy accepted the donation of a conservation easement on this 17-acre property situated between the Susquehanna River and the historic Pennsylvania Canal to protect the land and a stone farmhouse located on the property. The owners had no heirs and were looking for a way to assure permanent preservation of the homesite when they contacted the Conservancy. The property contains more than 1,000 feet of frontage along Pepper Street which gives the public beautiful views of open agricultural lands, the historic residence, and woodlands. In addition, the property contains Class I agricultural soils.
The historic stone farmhouse on the property was built around 1795. The home is eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places, and is identified by Lycoming County’s Historic Plan of 1974 and the County Comprehensive Plan as a property that should be preserved.
