Through the efforts of several local conservation organizations, six acres were added to the State Game Lands in Lewis Township, Lycoming County. This parcel links two other parcels already owned by the Pennsylvania Game Commission, thereby providing 208 contiguous acres for outdoor enjoyment. In addition, the property is important because it contains a turkey vulture roost for 75 to 100 birds. These birds can often be seen from Route 15 soaring on the updrafts that rise from Lycoming Creek Valley.
The Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy purchased the property using funds donated by the Susquehanna Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Susquehanna Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the Lycoming Audubon Society, and the Ruffed Grouse Society. In addition to donating the staff time and costs to purchase the property, the NPC absorbed the holding costs for interim ownership and the costs associated with transferring ownership to the Game Commission.
